For the last three decades, Robert Young Pelton has become famous for surviving our planet’s most violent wars. His stories include first hand experience with terrorists, jihadis and rebel groups. He has been surrounded by the Russian Army in Grozny; witnessed the massacres by the murderous White Army in Malakal South Sudan; survived daily attacks in Liberia; been shelled on the front lines with the Taliban in Afghanistan; run with Blackwater teams in Iraq; and gone on covert missions with U.S. Army Special Forces.
Now Pelton, based at the Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS.EU) in Malta, is focusing his attention on human migration, specifically from Africa to Europe. Every year, thousands of migrants lose their lives crossing the Mediterranean. In his session, Pelton will tell the story beyond the headlines and cast a spotlight on the information gaps.
